Supervision for Counsellors & Psychotherapists

Offering Clinical Supervision

Supervision is a place to reflect and understand, a place to receive support and challenge, and a place to develop your confidence and skills as a practitioner.

Supervision is a place to reflect and understand, a place to receive support and challenge, and a place to develop your confidence and skills as a practitioner.

My hope is that we can make your supervision sessions a safe and confidential space where you can bring your practitioner-self for support, growth and enquiry. I see supervision as a supportive and nurturing dialogue that over time will become a place where you can develop greater self-reflection, understanding and self-compassion, a place where you can receive both support and challenge, and a place to develop your confidence and skills as a practitioner.

I qualified as a counsellor in 1998, and as a clinical supervisor in 2005. I am committed to continuing professional development as Director of Brighton Therapy Partnership, where since 2010 I have organised a yearly programme of training workshops and therapy-related conferences. This has included attendance at a three-day small group supervision training in 2014 with Robin Shohet (author of the seminal text Supervision in the Helping Professions).

My clinical experience includes 8 years experience managing a Counselling Service for Young People (aged 13 to 25), which included supervising trainee counsellors, and running a large student placement scheme, placing and supporting over 20 counsellors-in-training each year.

I also have had many years experience supervising both qualified counsellors and psychotherapists and counsellors-in-training, either one-to-one or in small group supervision. I have experience of supervising counsellors working in private practice, in school settings, and within community or voluntary sector organisations. I also offer external supervision to staff who are not therapeutically trained but who work in a supportive or managerial role and who require supervision of their work with vulnerable client groups.

In the second half of my career I have focused on working with adults in private practice and most of my work has an emphasis on childhood trauma, disrupted early attachments, familial relationships, bereavement, and long-term therapeutic interventions. I am the owner of The Palmeira Practice, a counselling and psychotherapy Practice based in Brighton & Hove with over 20 therapist members and an active marketing and client referral base. I have in-depth experience of what it takes to develop a successful private practice and small business, and I bring all of these skills to my work as a clinical supervisor.

While I often describe my practice as being integrative, my main therapeutic modality and training is in the psychodynamic model. I also have a keen interest and knowledge in attachment-based therapy, childhood trauma, and concepts from body psychotherapy. You can read more about my approach to therapy and my work and life experience on the My Approach page and About Me page.

Current Availability and Fees

I am able to offer clinical supervision sessions either weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Sessions are either 50 minutes (£65) or 90 minutes (£115). I do not offer concessionary rates for clinical supervision, nor offer to supervise students or counsellors-in-training.

Your needs in supervision will be unique to you, so it can be beneficial to have an 'introductory session' so that we can meet and discuss your supervision needs and whether you feel we would work well together. The fee for an introductory meeting is £45 (50 minutes). I am very open to working with therapists who like to have more than one clinical supervisor, to gain experience and supervision from different perspectives or for different areas of their practice.

At the time of writing all supervision sessions take place online via Zoom. Please contact me for current availability.
