Ending a long-term relationship

What issues were you facing?

I had been suffering with a breakup in a fairly long term relationship. Probably the lowest point in my life. Struggled to eat, sleep and function throughout the day. Felt pretty empty and kind of meaningless with everything I was doing. Kind of felt like I was having a bit of a mid life crisis long before the middle of my life. I was struggling to see myself moving on and being my own person. I guess I felt like I didn’t really have a purpose.

How did counselling help?

For me it was just having someone to listen to and that knew the right questions to ask. Having someone listen to my thoughts and having someone to open up to. Before this I hadn’t spoken to anyone and had a lot of bottled up emotions.

How has life been after counselling?

I definitely feel better than before my sessions. I have been using my time to work out what I want to do with my life and trying to become more of an individual. I am quite up and down at the moment. I think I just need time to fully heal but the sessions definitely helped me get to a place where I can feel stress free and able to eat and sleep properly.

What would you say to those concerned about the cost?

It’s different for everyone, money means different things for different people. For me there’s probably not much more valuable than your mental health. So for me yes in my circumstances it was a good investment.

Would you recommend counselling?

Yes, its helped me a lot and taught me a lot about myself. It’s allowed me to continue my normal life and look forward to the future again.
